Assistant Manager – Community Mental Health (Volunteer)

Working Format: Hybrid (remote working with occasional in-person meetings in London); flexible working 9am-10pm UK time, Monday-Sunday

Duties/Responsibilities: 

You'll play an essential part in delivering our Third Place (formerly The Teashop+) sessions, co-design workshops, and Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) meetings. From supporting young participants to helping shape mental health programmes from the ground up, you’ll be immersed in the full scope of what it means to co-create care.

Supporting & Attending Third Place Sessions and Co-Design Workshops (35%)

Get hands-on experience in supporting the delivery of community mental wellbeing interventions and facilitating safe, supportive spaces for participants—an excellent foundation for future clinical or community psychology roles.

  • Set up and prepare the physical and/or digital space for sessions, ensuring a calm and welcoming atmosphere.

  • Actively engage with participants—helping them feel heard, included, and supported.

  • Assist facilitators during sessions by managing resources, breakout groups, or mindfulness activities.

  • Gather qualitative feedback during and after sessions to help us continuously improve our delivery and approach.

  • Support the monitoring and evaluation process by helping to collect, organise, and input data related to session outcomes, attendance, and participant experience.

  • Use digital tools (e.g., Google Forms, Excel, or other platforms) to help track impact and generate insights for reporting and programme development.

Assisting with Recruitment & Community Outreach (20%)

Help us reach new participants and promote mental wellbeing in a culturally sensitive way.

  • Attend community events and outreach activities to connect with local organisations and promote our work.

  • Distribute flyers, speak to local residents, and represent Mind Axis at local wellbeing fairs or outreach events.

  • Create engaging social media content (e.g., Instagram Reels, stories, and posts) that reflect the values and goals of Third Place and other services.

  • Help monitor engagement and reach, ensuring our messaging resonates with underserved and ethnic minority communities.

Co-Leading & Supporting LEAP (Lived Experience Advisory Panel) Meetings (15%)

Support the integration of lived experience into programme development.

  • Co-lead panel meetings, helping to guide discussions and ensure inclusive participation.

  • Prepare and share agendas, thought prompts, and materials with panel members ahead of each meeting.

  • Help synthesise key takeaways and contribute to shaping how feedback is implemented across our services.

  • Learn how to embed service-user voices into mental health design—a valuable skill in clinical and research careers.

Designing Engagement & Promotional Materials Using Canva (10%)

You’ll contribute to the visual identity of our programmes and learn how to communicate psychological concepts in accessible, creative ways.

  • Design co-design workshop materials that facilitate engagement and reflection (e.g., worksheets, mood boards, interactive tools).

  • Create event flyers, infographics, and session guides that are visually engaging and inclusive.

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure materials are aligned with our mission and accessible for all participants.

Providing Administrative & Operational Support (10%)

You’ll help manage the logistics that keep our sessions running smoothly—gaining insight into what it takes to coordinate community mental wellbeing programmes.

  • Organise and book venues for Third Place sessions, co-design workshops, and LEAP meetings.

  • Order and prepare materials and resources in advance for all sessions.

  • Track and manage inventory of workshop supplies and printed materials.

  • Help maintain a calendar of upcoming events and communicate details to the team.

Taking Minutes & Managing Participant Records (5%)

  • Accurately take meeting minutes and record key points from co-design workshops and LEAP meetings.

  • Track action items and decisions to ensure clear communication and follow-up.

  • Assist with compiling data and narratives for grant reporting and programme evaluation.

Conducting Telephone Screening of Participants (5%)

  • Carry out structured telephone screenings to ensure participants meet inclusion criteria.

  • Explain the purpose and structure of our sessions in an approachable, clear way.

  • Provide emotional reassurance, build rapport, and answer questions from potential participants.

Essential Criteria:

  • Currently studying or holding a Bachelor's degree in any field

  • Excellent organisation and time management skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • A creative mindset

  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to engage with diverse participants

  • Ability to travel to Hounslow (West London)

Desirable criteria:

  • Studied or are studying Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work, or similar

  • Experience with social media content creation

  • Previous group facilitation or community engagement experience
